Paint pens for Pelican-like case?

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of customizing some gear cases and am thinking of using paint pens since they're fairly easy to use and don't need much in the way of clean up. My main concern is durability of the paint since these will be getting tossed around a fair bit. I know oil based pens will last the longest but it's hard to figure out which ones are actually good quality and they don't seem to have many color options. If anyone uses these regularly and has a favorite they'd like to recommend I'd appreciate it! Acrylic paint pens seem to offer the color variety but I know they will flake away pretty quick. Is there a way to clearcoat my designs over the plastic? I've heard of people using automotive paint touch up pens, and the color variety of those is awesome, but would they damage the plastic?
