Paper Rex eliminates DRX to secure VALORANT Masters Toronto spot

Paper Rex has pulled off a clean sweep against VCT Pacific Kickoff champions DRX in the lower bracket of Pacific Stage 1 to secure its spot at VALORANT Masters Toronto. As a result, DRX is eliminated from the event and will miss out on Masters Toronto as well.

PRX is the third and final team to represent the region at the second international VCT event of the year, joining Gen.G and Rex Regum Qeon.

In the best-of-three series, DRX kicked things off strong with a 5-2 lead on Lotus. However, PRX quickly turned the tables by winning the next five rounds to put 7-5 on the board. 

Riding that momentum into the second half, PRX extended its lead to 11-5 before DRX started cooking a comeback; however, fell one round shot as PRX closed out the map at 13-11.

The second map, Icebox, followed a similar script in the first half. But unlike Lotus, PRX maintained a comfortable lead in the second half, to take away the map by 13-9 and the series by 2-0.

“I’m very happy and I think the team feels the same way. We’ve been working very hard ever since we had a rough start at the beginning of the season. But I told the team that if we beat DFM [DetonatioN FocusMe], we’re going to VALORANT Masters Toronto,” said Khalish ‘d4v41’ Rusyaidee in the post-match interview.

Paper Rex barely made it to the VCT Pacific Stage 1 playoffs, coming from the group as 4th seed. However, the Singaporean organisation battled its way through the lower bracket to reach the lower final.

The team will now face RRQ on May 10th for a spot in the event’s Grand Final and the best-of-five series will be streamed live on VCT Pacific’s official Twitch and YouTube channels.
