PUBG Mobile has announced a collaboration with K-pop group BABYMONSTER ahead of the game’s seventh anniversary.
According to a release, PUBG Mobile players can earn in-game rewards inspired by the idol group and participate in other interactive gameplay elements on the Erangel and Rondo maps. The event will last until May 6th.
Additionally, players will be able to take photos with their favourite BABYMONSTER member in a photo booth at the centre of each area. Fans can also play the K-pop group’s music by equipping themselves with the BABYMONSTER-branded cassette player.
The collaboration seems to be fully focused on in-game activations, with no esports-focused content announced.
Formed under YG Entertainment in 2023, the K-pop group consists of seven members – three South Koreans (Ahyeon, Rami, Rora), two Japanese (Ruka, Asa) and two Thai (Pharita, Chiquita).
Throughout the past few years, there have been several collaborations in the esports and gaming space featuring K-pop artists. Back in 2022, Blackpink released a collaborative track with PUBG Mobile, ‘Ready For Love’. New Jeans (now known as NJZ) worked on the 2023 League of Legends World Championship anthem, ‘Gods’ and performed live during the Grand Final match in South Korea.
Earlier this year, FPS shooter Overwatch 2 and LE SSERAFIM collaborated on the release of brand-new skins and cosmetics after their first successful partnership back in 2023. Other artists such as KISS OF LIFE and THE BOYZ have also been involved in esports-focused projects.
Vincent Wang, Head of PUBG MOBILE Publishing at Tencent Games, commented on the partnership:
“With PUBG MOBILE’s 7th anniversary this year, we’re excited to continue delivering fresh and engaging content for our players, and we look forward to bringing the excitement and vibrancy of BABYMONSTER to the game.
“With BABYMONSTER’s meteoric rise in the music industry and their undeniable impact on global pop culture, this collaboration is a perfect fusion of music and gaming. We can’t wait for players to experience the energy and style of BABYMONSTER on the battlegrounds.”
