Ralph Lauren Is All About Romantic Dandies and Sheer Dresses for Fall/Winter 2025

Ralph Lauren was notably missing from the New York Fashion Week circuit in February. The American fashion house—eponymously led by its 85-year-old founder (who doesn't serve as CEO, but holds posts as executive chairman and chief creative officer)—opted to show off-calendar, revealing its Fall/Winter 2025 collection on Thursday instead. The new womenswear, held in New York City's Tribeca neighborhood, had the brand's usual take on Americana, as one may expect. However, this season has a surprising twist.

This show's title, the "Modern Romantics," signaled exactly what to expect. Looks on the runway were distinguished by romantic details. Ruffles tracing the edge of blouses and necklines, that looked like something Pride and Prejudice's Mr. Darcy would wear, brought this airy energy to life. Yet, these same, dandy-ish tops being layered under camel moto jackets, high-waisted belts, and riding boots seemed to ground them in a modern moment. Sheer dresses, abound with floral prints, also channeled something romantic and trendy. Beyond the pieces more obviously in theme, sharply tailored suiting, sexy leather bustiers, and dramatic fur coats channeled the cool the brand is known for.

Neckties, a reigning womenswear trend in street style and on runways alike, had plenty moments on the catwalk at Ralph Lauren, bringing a practical feeling to the otherwise lofty set. Belts are another standout accessory for Fall/Winter 2025, styled in a myriad of ways, thanks to their range of buckle shapes and widths. Some other pieces in this mostly dark-hued collection call directly to the brand's archives. For example, a hand-beaded sweater with floral motifs was made to channel a piece worn by model Clotilde Holby in a 1980s Ralph Lauren campaign, according to the brand's press release.

In the front row, A-list celebrities squeezed in next to each other like Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams (who just finished a press junket for her new TV show Dying for Sex), Andra Day, Anna Wintour, Sarah Catherine Hook (of The White Lotus Season 3), Ryan Destiny, and more.
