Rotten floor around furnace
Bought a fixer upper. Not doing all the work myself but will do some. Had an HVAC guy pull out the old furnace and we've got some time to freshen up the area around it before the new one goes in. I knew there was water leaking in the area so I pulled up some of the tile surrounding the furnace area as well as the rotten drywall in behind. It looks to me like maybe this subfloor was installed over a (green?) deck maybe? I had planned to cut out the rotten subfloor and put in fresh plywood, and put in some new insulation on the wall with vapour barrier. Now that I can see more rotten wood around the furnace though, it seems like I'll need to replace the wood that's on the floor directly around the flange (between the furnace flange and the wall framing). Not sure if/how I can go about that without taking out some of this ducting so I can get underneath and behind the flange. And then the wood below that trim also looks rotten but I can't even really access it... Anyone have any advice? submitted by /u/drewwgle [link] [comments]
