Sandy Liang Fall/Winter 2025 Is a Childhood Dream

Wherever girlhood takes us, Sandy Liang is sure to follow. The New York City designer’s latest seasonal presentation – described in the show notes as “a childhood fantasy realized” – marked a nostalgic musing on the Sandy Liang girl growing up, pairing together an extensive color palette of textures, prints and patterns to emulate the captivating connection of creativity and chaos that is at the core of getting older.“There is the excitement of having a beautiful pink planner with a lock on it when there is nothing to plan, this thrill just comes from the opportunity to have secrets," the show notes begin, contextualizing the authentic encapsulation of growing up as a girl  – so authentic in that Liang actually lifted design inspiration from her adolescent archive to create the garments. Look 7 even signaled what Liang calls her "adult princess dress."Precious objects abound but their value is only personal," the notes continue, pointing to Liang's usage of her childhood princess dresses – which are literally recreated in full-size – and screenprinting of scribbles from her own day planners onto graphics and other garments.“She wears her desires on her sleeve and her schedule on her shirt," – literally, with one skirt strikingly adorned in calendar motifs while another comes covered in pencil cases, makeup and jewelery. "Accompanying the seriousness of self-actualization is a playful abandon – her closet is filled with beautiful and unlikely things all layered on top of each other.”Skirts are layered atop long johns, polka dots are paired with florals and ties are donned underneath quarter-zips, seeing Liang also level up her outerwear range, dipping nylon zip-up silhouettes in bold colorways of neon yellow and pink. Playful dresses and skirts are elevated with mini dresses and skirts sewn onto the front (very Polly Pocket vibes) while more sophisticated suits and tailored dresses maintain the collection's spirit in attached ribbon detailing.Liang also leans into her personal favorite childhood memories once again in the graphics selection, with ToysRUs, The Snowman and The Parent Trap all making cameos throughout the delivery.Pearls are an accessory of choice, emulating the growing girl's desire to, well, grow and look older than age. Imbuing individualism, subtle elegance and supreme whimsy, Fall/Winter 2025 continues to follow the Sandy Liang girl wherever her life might take her.Explore Sandy Liang’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection in the runway images above and stay tuned to Hypebeast for continuing New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2025 coverage.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
