Sandy Liang's Childhood Fever Returns for Fall/Winter 2025 in Miniskirts and Doll Clothes
The clothes are a gesture towards a place one can never return: childhood. Fun details include the label's name printed on graphic T-shirts in a Toys”R”Us-like typeface.
Sandy Liang's collections lately have reveled in memories of childhood, and Fall/Winter 2025 carries that baton with garments that look like they could have come straight from the a Groovy Girls or Polly Pocket playset. Pairings like lapis vinyl skirts with polka dot cardigans and frocks with printed leggings (that feel like 2000s clothes from The Children's Place or Gymboree) bring this sentiment to life. Colors in the collection are airy and youthful, too, like a draped cutout dress in orange sherbet.
Liang’s clothes are always infused with a sense of play—even when they’re more buttoned up and office-ready. Some of this season’s most fun moments include a mini doll sweater sewn on to the life-sized thing; the label's name printed on graphic T-shirts in a Toys”R”Us-like typeface; and sentimental patterns. Pencil case purses feel reminiscent of back-to-school season. Toy-like pearl necklaces and Gentle Monster sunglasses built up the attitude in the looks during the New York Fashion Week runway show, where faux snow lined the catwalk.
These clothes are a gesture towards a place one can never return to, towards youth, and towards a time when grown-up worries were inconceivable (and when retrospectively silly concerns felt like the end of the world). There may be more 2020s coded neckties and micro miniskirts, but Fall/Winter 2025 mainly offers a joyful entry point to nostalgia and a renewed understanding of the playful Sandy Liang universe.
