Shygirl Revives Her Grime-Rap Roots With "Club Shy Room 2" EP
Shygirl has returned to drop a sultry sequel to her critically renowned EP Club Shy (2024). Departing from the house-focussed sound of the first project, Club Shy Room 2 enlists a roster of global collaborators like Saweetie and Pinkpantheress to reprise Shygirl's grime-infused hip-hop style. The multi-hyphenate electronic artist opens the EP with two strong tracks, "Je M'apelle" and "Flex" with BAMBII, which immediately recall her EP ALIAS (2020), a seven track project that showcased her impressive flow on songs like "Leng" and "Freak". Following the opening songs, fans may already be familiar with tracks three and four: Immaculate with California rapper Saweetie and F*Me with French singer Yseult — the first two singles released ahead of the project."Wifey Riddim" with Jorja Smith and Sadboi adds R&B flavors to the mix with a fast-paced number ending in a bass-heavy house break. Finally, the EP concludes with the Latin-inspired "True Religion," featuring pop sensation Pink Pantheress and Honduran artist Isabella Lovestory. Leaning into Shygirl's affinity for Reggaeton and Neoperreo, Isabella Lovestory delivers a hard-hitting verse in Spanish and Pinkpantheress comes through for the bridge, showcasing her signature, delicate falsetto.Behind the tracks, producers include Mura Masa, Oscar Scheller, and guest appearances from Nick León and Blue May, each lending their unique stylistic signatures to the dynamic project.
