Stuffies for Microbiology .. sewing question
I want to sew up some stuffies representing stereotypical bacteria shapes and I'm thinking about what the patterns will look like. Spirochetes look like this illustration of 3 of them (below). I'm worried that if I just cut a wide spiral (and then sew it into a tube) it won't stretch out like this and it will be kinda flat rather than tubular (actually now that I write that I bet it will be pretty tubular). Maybe I should stop thinking about it and just experiment but since I have to move my computer off my desk, and since I want to finish some assignments before I do that, I thought I would get some thoughts from crafty redditors. Spirochetes I also want to make some bacilli and I'm thinking the pattern for a bacillus (singular of bacilli) will resemble a sort of butterfly of capsule shapes to get it to be tubular in the middle but rounded at the ends. I'm worried it will flatten out at the ends and be more tongue like that capsule like. Any thoughts (below is a diagram of bacteria shapes and it's making me realize that I don't know how to sew a sphere either ... probably like a flattened out banana peel thing). All the bacteria shapes This idea is probably actually pretty labor intensive, isn't it? ...but maybe there's an easy way? NOTE: I had originally tried to post this to r/sewing but I don't have enough karma there. submitted by /u/cat-named-mouse [link] [comments]
