Nintendo officially revealed its next-gen console, Nintendo Switch 2, in January — though the company didn’t say much beyond confirming the Switch 2’s existence, its name, and a 2025 release window in a short teaser video. On April 2, Nintendo will provide more details about Switch 2 in a dedicated Nintendo Direct presentation.
April’s Nintendo Direct will “share a closer look at Nintendo Switch 2,” which hopefully means more detailed hardware features, system specs, price, and Switch 2’s planned launch games. Pre-orders for Switch 2 are expected to go live after the Nintendo Direct ends. But we still have plenty of questions about the Switch 2 going into this week’s Nintendo Direct.
Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will stream live on April 2 at 9 a.m. EDT/6 a.m. PDT/2 p.m. BST. (Find the Nintendo Direct in your time zone here.) We now know that the Switch 2 Direct will be approximately 60 minutes long.
On April 3-4, Nintendo also plans a series of Nintendo Treehouse: Live presentations that will feature hands-on gameplay of Switch 2 games. Nintendo Treehouse: Live Nintendo Switch 2 will stream on Thursday and Friday starting at 10 a.m EDT/7 a.m. PDT.
The only game officially confirmed for Switch 2 by Nintendo thus far is a new Mario Kart, but since Nintendo is taking its next-gen console on a global hands-on tour starting April 6, it will certainly need to reveal its game lineup by then. Last week, Nintendo held a surprise Nintendo Direct that was all about original Switch games, in which the company revealed new games like Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven Groove, as well as new details on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends Z-A.
Switch 2 is slated for release sometime in 2025 — possibly as early as June, based on the timing of Nintendo’s hands-on events for its successor to the Switch.
