Teyana Taylor's 2025 Met Gala Look Is a Perfect Ode to Harlem
The 34-year-old multihyphenate artist collaborated with longtime friend Ruth E. Carter on the custom ensemble that quickly earned her a spot on the night's best dressed list.

Teyana Taylor was one of the first few celebrities to arrive at the 2025 Met Gala red carpet, and she owned it from her very first step there. The artist wore a deeply intricate outfit, and while hosting the livestream with Vogue, she revealed she designed it with a powerhouse in fashion and costuming.
Taylor worked with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter to create the tailor-made look that honors this evening's theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." The duo previously worked together on the 2021 film Coming 2 America, and they've reunited to bring this remarkable ensemble to the legendary Met Gala steps. The gray and red ensemble is comprised of a three-piece pinstripe suit accessorized with silver chains across its red vest and down the right trouser leg. To add an even more grand feeling of flamboyance, Taylor wore a padded red cape with the words "Harlem Rose" handstitched on the train, undoubtedly paying homage to her 2018 song "Rose in Harlem" and to her roots in the historic New York borough.
The cape also featured large red flower on the right side and a smaller red flower on the left, complemented with silver flower pins. She completed the tailored look with red leather gloves, a red cane, a red durag, and a red fedora which featured a matching feather. Her chunky platfom shoes? Those are by Marc Jacobs.
Carter accompanied Taylor on the Met steps and helped fan out the cape so all the detailing was presented. In an interview with Vogue, Carter discussed the look's symbolism and the significance of this year's theme. "As we embarked on our journey in this country, we were stripped of everything,” Carter said. “A lot of times the only thing you had was to show it on your body.”
Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams are the co-chairs at this year's Met Gala and the dress code is "Tailored for You." LeBron James is also serving as the honorary chair as the 2025 exhibition celebrates Black dandyism inspired from Monica L. Miller's 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.
This marks Taylor's third year attending the Met Gala since making her debut in 2023.
