Splitgate 2 release: Everything we know so far

Fans of competitive FPS games won’t want to miss out on the Splitgate 2 release date, which appears to be closer than first theorized. While the exact date is yet to be determined, 1047 Games has hinted towards a full release coming sooner rather than later after the recently announced beta period, so it may not be long before we’re all jumping through portals at Mach speed. 

We’re going over everything you need to know about the Splitgate 2 game further down the page, from the gameplay, details, beta access, history of the franchise, and more, so that you’re fully clued up on what to expect from 1047’s hotly anticipated sequel. However, note that the following combines confirmed details and industry speculation. 

The confirmed 2025 release window is expected in early Q4 2025. The exact date for Splitgate’s next game is yet to be announced.

While we don’t know the exact Splitgate 2 release date, we are aware that 1047 Games’ sequel is coming out in 2025. The game was announced in July 2024 and has received steady updates since then. 

Considering we’re in May 2025 now, we’re expecting the anticipated Sci-fi shooter to be released in Q3 of this year. This is based on an X thread from the official Splitgate account stating the game will be out “before November,” meaning that September or October 2025 would be most apt. 

That’s because the Splitgate 2 open beta was recently announced for May 22, 2025, and the game’s in surprisingly complete shape, leading us to believe that a full release will not be far behind the playtesting stage. It’s confirmed that this beta period will feature over 25 weapons, more than 10 modes, and “infinite” maps, teasing community creation tools on top of the 15 or so made by the development team. 

Our speculation of the Splitgate 2 release window is due to how feature-rich the title already looks this side of things. This timeframe would mean that the sequel arrives six years after the release of the original Splitgate game, which is still routinely played by a few hundred people every day. We’re hopeful that the FPS community will more widely adopt the sequel. 

The new Splitgate 2 game is confirmed to be free-to-play.

Since the Splitgate 2 announcement, it’s been confirmed that the sequel will be free-to-play, much like with the original 2019 action shooter. 

It’s a wise move from 1047 Games as we’ve seen many top FPS titles embrace the free-to–play model, such as The Finals, VALORANT, CS2, and Overwatch 2 to great success. 

It breaks down the barrier of entry, which has previously been something of a death knell for shooters from even AAA game developers and publishers, such as the ill-fated 5v5 hero shooter Concord from Firewalk Studios that was shut down mere weeks after release, which carried a $40 MSRP. 

The game will launch on PlayStation, Xbox & PC platforms. 

The Splitgate 2 platforms list ensures that (almost) everyone will be able to play the Sci-fi shooter; 1047 Games’ sequel is confirmed for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. 

That means the only platform that won’t be receiving the game (at this point) is the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. It’s worth remembering that the original Splitgate game did not come to the hybrid-handheld console, but there’s a possibility that it could arrive on the sequel machine. 

This is backed by an X thread in which the official Splitgate account said that a Switch 2 release was “possible,” so if you’re a Nintendo gamer, you may not be waiting too long.

1047 Games has been incredibly forthcoming about the Splitgate new release, with the sequel being teased back in May 2024 with its “Say Goodbye to Splitgate” video, which racked up over 500,000 lifetime views. The clip shows a character walking around an empty arena before going through a portal, where the screen cuts to black. 

Then, in July 2024, we received the Splitgate 2 Cinematic Announcement Trailer, which clocks in at just over two minutes and establishes the world of the new Splitgate game. 

There’s a wealth of worldbuilding here, which introduces us to the likes of Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask factions and their distinct aesthetic and playable differences. More than 5 million people have seen the video, showing that interest in the arena shooter seems much higher than with the first game. 

There has since been a steady stream of Splitgate 2 gameplay trailers released, with the most pressing of which being the Official Gameplay Reveal, clocking in around four and a half minutes in length, and demonstrating some rough alpha footage in action. 

It’s been incredibly well-received by the community, with the top comment stating: “Who’s ready for these guys to start the next generation of shooters?” High praise indeed. 

Most recently, there has been the Splitgate 2 Beta Announcement. The development team has been incredibly forthcoming and transparent with the timeframes. It’s confirmed for May 22, 2025, for all major consoles and PC, itself, which comes just two months after the Open Alpha Trailer, which gave a select few the keys to test drive 1047 Games’ revised movement and shooting mechanics on an icy map with a handful of weapons. 

The new game has modest requirements for its minimum and recommended settings.

With the new Splitgate game (seemingly) coming no later than October 2025, it’s not too shocking that the full system requirements have already been revealed. 

As listed on the game’s official Steam page, Splitgate 2 features modest requirements for its minimum and recommended settings. The only thing we don’t know yet is the total storage space the game will take up on your computer. The alpha took up around 11GB, but the full release could be significantly larger. 

The full Splitgate 2 system requirements ask for hardware that is around a decade old at the bare minimum, which is likely to run the game at either 720p or 1080p, with humble processor and RAM requirements as well. 

If you’re running a fairly up-to-date PC (even with hardware from five or so years ago), you’ll have no problem playing the game in higher resolutions and hitting higher framerates. This is smart, as it means more people can play the shooter across the world, broadening the mass appeal. 

The Splitgate 2 release date may not be confirmed yet. However, the developers have teased that the game will be available “earlier than November” 2025, so we’ll all (hopefully) be playing the Sci-fi arena shooter in the next few months. 

Backed by excellent gunplay, slick graphics, and fast movement, 1047 Games’ sequel looks like a far bigger swing than the 2019 original, which has already garnered much more interest. 

It’ll be available to play for free on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles, with even the potential of a Switch 2 port not ruled out at this time. Whether it can compete with the likes of VALORANT, CS2, and Fortnite Ballistic remains to be seen, but things are looking encouraging this side of release; it’ll live (or die) based on its adoption from fans.
