That reported Street Fighter movie cast sure is something, but what’s your favorite live action video game film?

Gamers! Are you ready to hit up the movies for the next big live action video game adaptation?! Hello? Don't all line up at once. In case you missed it, the 2026 Street Fighter movie cast is quickly taking shape, and it's a list that is truly something to behold. It will reportedly consist of rapper 50 Cent as Balrog, WWE wrestler Roman Reigns as Akuma, Aquaman's Jason Momoa as Blanka, and that's just the start. Screenshot via Paramount Pictures Many gamers and movie fans are scratching their heads and rolling their eyes at the cast list thus far, but hey, who knows, maybe it could be good. The track record of live action video game movies would suggest otherwise, though. There have been so many live action video game movies and TV shows over the years, and they run the gamut of everything from pretty good to absolutely dreadful. A lot of them do a poor job of pulling from source material, while others seem to be written ineptly, and others have atrocious acting performances. And some have all of these bad qualities, and more! It all began back in 1993 with Super Mario Bros., starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario and Luigi, respectively. And that movie was...unique. It began the trend of trying to "real world-ify" video games and is a good example of how sometimes, simpler is better. Most recently, we have some of the highest-rated adaptations, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Werewolves Within and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 lead the way at 86 percent and 85 percent Fresh, and then there's a massive drop-off to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at 69 percent. The biggest success so far, though, has been A Minecraft Movie which released earlier this year and made a whopping $911 million at the global box office. You can bet we'll be seeing more CHICKEN JOCKEY at the box office soon. Another movie that blended live action and CGI, similar to the Sonic and Minecraft films, was Pokémon Detective Pikachu in 2019, sitting at 68 percent Fresh. These are all just critic scores, though, so I'm curious as to what the gamers think about them. Image via Warner Bros. Some other game movies did well enough to warrant sequels and/or reboots, including Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, and Silent Hill. But were they actually any good? And so, now I turn to you, dear reader. What is your favorite live action video game adaptation? There's plenty to choose from, to be sure, but the quality of the field is a question mark, to be sure. Answer our poll below and also let us know in the comments what you think.
