Virtus.pro enters Marvel Rivals esports

Virtus.pro has announced its entry into Marvel Rivals esports with the signing of a roster for the popular hero shooter.

According to the esports organisation, the new roster will compete in the game’s major events, including the upcoming Marvel Rivals Championship Season 1 in March.

Virtus.pro’s new team consists entirely of professional players who had competed in Overwatch before pivoting to Marvel Rivals following its successful release in December last year.

Duelists William ‘SparkR’ Andersson and Philip ‘phi’ Handke, Strategists Mikkel ‘Sypeh’ Klein and Arthur ‘dridro’ Szanto as well as Vanguard player Andreas ‘Nevix’ Karlsson were previously part of TeamCats.

The squad became EU Champions during last year’s Marvel Rivals Championship Season 0. The five former TeamCats members are joined by Finnbjörn ‘Finnsi’ Jónasson.

“As a team, we are incredibly excited to join Virtus.pro! We look forward to collaborating, growing, and making a meaningful impact together in Marvel Rivals,” shared Nevix.

Founded in 2003, Virtus.pro competes in various esports titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Rainbow Six: Siege and Apex Legends. The organisation’s partners include electronics brand Thunderobot and clothing company Kappa.

Nikolai Petrossian, CEO of Virtus.pro, expressed high expectations for the lineup: “We have signed a very strong roster capable of competing for top placements in major tournaments. The team’s goal is to win the debut event and set the pace for future performances.”

Petrossian added that the development of the Marvel Rivals scene alongside the competitive performance of the newly-signed team would impact Virtus.pro’s future investment in the game.

Since its release, hero shooter Marvel Rivals has seen an overwhelmingly positive reception from casual and competitive players alike.

With the reveal of the Marvel Rivals Championship Season 1 in January, Virtus.pro is not the only esports stakeholder to show interest in the title’s growing esports scene.

Earlier this month, retired Counter-Strike player and FPS streamer Michael ‘Shroud’ Grzesiek confirmed the creation of a Marvel Rivals esports organisation.

Despite the game’s ongoing success, Marvel Rivals’ developers based in North America have recently undergone layoffs.
