What would be the best way to separate the basement from main level of a split level home?
My in-laws moved to the furnished basement while my husband and our two kids are on the main living space. However, FIL is a creep, abuser and a narcissist and we don’t feel safe with the idea of him having full access to our space when we’re not home or god forbid if he tried to come up while we are home. We already have plans to change the locks on the front door and back patio sliding door but we were thinking some kind of door either at the bottom or top of the stairs. The bottom would be better since it’s less space to have to build a door into and it’s less of an eye sore, wouldn’t be a fire hazard as they have a back door they use. I just need some tips and suggestions!! Thank you in advance (In-laws are happy to be living in the basement this is something they fully consented on in an agreement with my husband, the downstairs is fully suitable for living with a separate full bath, their own back door, my husband is building a kitchenette and taking care of anything they may need to be comfortable.) submitted by /u/Valiant_12 [link] [comments]
