Where to find Paradisan Ladder, Hylea’s Talon and Admeth’s Wyrt in Avowed

The first three native herb crafting materials you'll find in Avowed — Paradisan Ladder, Hylea's Talon, and Admeth's Wyrt — are what you'll use to upgrade Common, Fine, and Exceptional quality gear. You'll need to keep upgrading your gear to take on the challenging enemies that await you on your adventure across the Living Lands. It's also the only native herb you'll find in Dawnshore, making it much easier to farm here than in other regions. There's also a chance that you'll find Paradisan Ladder in Lockboxes and chests. The contents of both chests and their smaller lockbox counterparts seem to be random, regardless of where you find them in the world from my experience. Downgrading Hylea's Talon You can upgrade and downgrade crafting materials at your workbench in your party camp. One Hylea's Talon (which we'll get to in a moment), can be 'downgraded' into three Paradisan Ladder. Whether or not this makes sense for you to do depends on the gear you're upgrading and what they require. Typically, Paradisan Ladder is required in earlier upgrade levels for gear, followed by Hylea's Talon, and then Admeth's Wyrt. Breaking down some 'Common' quality gear The final method is to break down 'Common' quality weapons. I've found that some of these will give me a minimum of two Paradisan Ladder. A birds-eye view shot of the Living Lands in Avowed

Here's how to get Paradisan Ladder, Hylea's Talon, and Admeth's Wyrt in Avowed.

There are a few methods of obtaining Paradisan Ladder:

  • Finding it in Dawnshore
  • Buying it from merchants
  • Downgrading Hylea's Thorn

I've explained each of these methods in more detail below.

Finding it in Dawnshore

Paradisan Ladder can be found growing in the Dawnshore region. The easiest way to find it is to keep an eye on your mini-map (top-left corner of your HUD) while exploring the world. Native herb crafting materials have a distinct 'plant' icon that has a stalk on a diagonal up and to the right. This is different to the 'health plants' as I call them which you can eat to recover your health, which have larger rounded leaves in their icon. I've included a screenshot of what the native herb crafting materials icon looks like on your mini-map below.

While Paradisan Ladder can be found in the Emerald Stair and other regions, it's far more common in Dawnshore.

Buying Paradisan Ladder from merchants

If you've got the gold, merchants have wares... including Paradisan Ladder. It only costs a few hundred gold for each one you buy.

It seems to be a bit random as to what merchants have for sale, but if you find one in a tavern, appears to be some sort of herbalist, or is primarily selling armor and weapons, they may also have some Paradisan Ladder for you to buy.

Downgrading Hylea's Talon

You can upgrade and downgrade crafting materials at your workbench in your party camp.

Breaking down some 'Common' quality gear

The final method is to break down 'Common' quality weapons. I've found that some of these will give me a minimum of two Paradisan Ladder. If you've got a Unique weapon of Common quality, this can be dismantled for more. For example, the Last Light of Day is a common quality, unique sword that will break down into six Iron Chunk and six Paradisan Ladder.

How to get Hylea's Talon in Avowed

Hylea's Talon can be found growing in the Emerald Stair region primarily. Using the same mini-map icon trick I mentioned above, you should be able to hunt this down easily as you explore the area. It can also be purchased from merchants and found in chests.

You can also break down 'Fine' quality gear two get a minimum of two Hylea's Talon. Unique items can be broken down for significantly more but the amount typically varies.

Much like Paradisan Ladder, you can use the upgrading and downgrading mechanic in Avowed to get more Hylea's Talon from other native herb crafting materials you have in your inventory. The amount of the other herbs you'll need and how much Hylea's Thorn you'll get from each is broken down below:

  • 4 Paradisan Ladder = 1 Hylea's Thorn
  • 1 Admeth's Wyrt = 3 Hylea's Thorn

How to get Admeth's Wyrt in Avowed

Finally, Admeth's Wyrt can be found growing in the Shatterscarp region. This only appears to be purchasable from merchants in this region and those you'll visit later on in the campaign. Merchants in Dawnshore and Emerald Stair do not stock it from my experience. As with the other two herbs, there's a chance you'll find it in chests and on defeated enemies in Shatterscarp and the regions you'll visit after that, too.

Break down 'Exceptional' quality gear from your inventory screen and you'll get two Admeth's Wyrt.

By using your workbench at your party camp, you can upgrade four Hylea's Thorn for one Admeth's Wyrt. As this is the 'top' of the native herb chain, there isn't a herb you can 'downgrade' to get multiple Admeth's Wyrt.

How to upgrade and downgrade crafting materials in Avowed

I've provided a quick how-to process of the upgrade and downgrade mechanic in Avowed below:

  1. Go to your party camp by fast traveling to any of those that you've unlocked.
  2. Head to the workbench and press X to interact with it.
  3. Tab over (RB) to the 'Crafting' menu.
  4. Use left and right on the d-pad to select the 'Upgrade Materials' or 'Downgrade' option.
  5. Select the crafting material you want to upgrade/ downgrade to, depending on the menu you're on.
  6. Confirm the 'transaction' and the crafting materials will be added to your inventory automatically.

Now you've got plenty of those native herb crafting materials, you'll be all set to upgrade your gear. For more on Avowed, we've got guides on which background to choose, where to find the Emerald Stair cartographer, and a Dawntreader side quest guide to help you with the final decision.
