While the camera quality on iPhones continues to improve, recording results that look increasingly like the work of a professional camera, the feeling of taking a photo of an iPhone compared with a camera is still very different. Leica’s LUX Grip works to change that.
The German company has created a removable extension to give an iPhone the feel of a Leica camera.
Featuring a mechanical two-stage shutter release, a precise setting dial, and two individually assignable FN buttons, the new grip provides the sensation of pressing down the shutter button on a traditional camera.
The Grip works in combination with the Leica LUX app (it’s not compatible with the standard iPhone Camera app) where it’s possible to recreate the look of signature Leica lenses like the Summilux-M or Noctilux-M.
This is the closest thing to shooting on a Leica without owning one of its cameras.
The Leica LUX Grip, which comes with an optional leather case, is available now retailing at $329.
At a time when phones are being used to shoot fashion shows and fashion campaigns, the power of an iPhone-shot image is no secret. Leica’s LUX Grip makes it even more powerful.
