50cm shelf vs 30cm shelf brackets. Will there be an overhang problem?
I'm planning to use 30 cm deep shelf brackets for a 50 cm deep shelf. The reason I'm choosing these brackets is that they include a rod holder, which I want to use for hanging clothes, and I already have boxes that are 50 cm deep, so I want the shelf to match that depth. The shelf will be a 2m long 18mm thick pine board mounted on top of the brackets. Brackets will be mounted to the concrete wall (apartment building exterior wall). I also plan to hang lightweight curtains from the front of the shelf to hide whatever is stored underneath. My concern is the 20 cm overhang in front of the shelf, since the brackets only support 30 cm of the total 50 cm depth. How much of an issue will this be? Would using 6 evenly spaced brackets instead of 4 reduce the risk? Or shall I opt for some other solution? Most of the weight will come from the clothes hanging from the rod, but I think there will be about total 40kg of weight on top of the shelf + the curtain weight hanging from the front side.
