Beat Saber is abandoning PlayStation VR

Starting this month, Oculus Studios will no longer be releasing Beat Saber content for PlayStation VR on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and plans to end multiplayer support for PS4 and PS5 in early 2026. The announcement was made via a post from the official Beat Saber X account.

“As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025,” the post reads. “Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years.”

A FAQ page on the popular VR rhythm game’s official website added additional context, revealing that while Beat Saber will still be available to purchase and play via the PlayStation Store, players will only be able to buy songs and music packs that were released prior to June 18. Lady GaGa’s “Abracadabra” track, which was “shock-dropped” on June 5, will be the last new track available for Beat Saber players to purchase on PlayStation consoles.

For now, multiplayer functionality will remain available for Beat Saber players on PlayStation consoles, but that will come to an end early next year.

“Starting on January 21st, 2026, multiplayer will no longer be available in Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5,” the game’s FAQ page reads.

According to the Beat Saber website, cross-buy will remain available, allowing players to play purchased songs and music packs on both PS4 and PS5, and players on PlayStation consoles will still receive customer support.

“Yes, we will continue supporting our players across PS4 and PS5, ensuring they have a seamless experience on the PlayStation platform,” the FAQ explains.

The response from players has been… mixed, to say the least.

“Kind of a slap in the face to users who played on those consoles and enjoyed your game,” one user said in a reply to the announcement. “Oh well, your loss.”

Beat Saber was initially developed by Czech Republic-based developer Beat Games, but was sold to Oculus Studios (owned by Meta) in November 2019. Going forward, new content for the game will only be available to play on MetaQuest VR or SteamVR hardware.

Beat Saber is available on PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and Meta Quest.
