TL;DR

  • The best Fortnite weapon right now is the Holo Twister AR.
  • The Sentinel Pump and Falcon Eye Sniper excel at short and long range, respectively.
  • Leading secondary options include the Mammoth Pistol and the Veiled Precision SMG.
  • Melee weapons have rarely been as intimidating as The Kneecapper.
  • Freeze your enemies with Sub-Zero’s Kombat Kit, an excellent pick-up on the field.
  • Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 (Lawless) ends on May 2, 2025.

If you’re asking yourself what the best weapons in Fortnite are, we’re here to help. We’re in the closing weeks of Chapter 6 Season 2, and have had months of experimenting with the new additions that the Lawless theme of cops and robbers has brought in. Running around Crime City, Lonewolf Lair, Outlaw Oasis, and Shiny Shafts can be dangerous, so you’ll need to be suitably armed if you intend to make it out in one piece.

We’re going through all the new weapons in Fortnite introduced in this season that you need to know about with a full tier list by category, so you can see what’s worth using and what’s better left where you found it.

Our definitive ranking list goes over the new assault rifles, shotguns, SMGs, sniper rifles, pistols, and melee weapons introduced in the current meta, but they won’t be around for long. Fortnite Lawless is scheduled to end on May 2, 2025, where everything will change again, so don’t delay if you want to try it all out for yourself.

So, what are the best weapons in Fortnite this season?

Best Fortnite weapons right now

Our top picks:

  • Holo Twister AR – best assault rifle
  • Sentinel Pump – best shotgun
  • Falcon Eye Sniper – best sniper rifle
  • Mammoth Pistol – best pistol
  • Veiled Precision SMG – best submachine gun

With Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 raging on, we’re giving you a brief overview of the five best Fortnite weapons available in the game currently, regardless of their type. Starting with the Holo Twister AR, which is considered to be the most coveted rifle to pick up right now for its high damage, fast firing rate, and good accuracy at all ranges.

We’re also big fans of the Sentinel Pump, which is easily one of the best Fortnite shotguns seen in the game to date for its high damage, incredible accuracy, and large spread with the (usual) sacrifice of range.

Want to pick off your enemies from a longer range? Look no further than the Falcon Eye Sniper, which decimates foes from the other side of the map thanks to its second zoom feature and heavy headshot damage. You’ll need to two-tap someone with an overshield, even with a Mythic variant, but there are no complaints over its functionality.

With that said, the best Fortnite pistol you can get your hands on right now is the Mammoth Pistol, which impresses with its leading stopping power at close and mid-range distances at the cost of its slower firing rate than even the Hand Cannon; if you’re switching to a secondary weapon then it’ll be much faster than reloading your primary, and put holes in the bad guys.

Of course, special mention also goes to the Veiled Precision SMG with its lightning-fast firing rate at mid-ranges that acts as a good jack-of-all-trades for running-and-gunning.

While we’ve given you an overview of the best weapons in Fortnite right now, it’s only right that you see how the top of the pack compares to our five top picks by category so you can see what’s worth looting on the battlefield and what to avoid clogging up your precious inventory space.

Fortnite assault rifle tier list

While the Holo Twister AR takes the top slot as the best Fortnite assault rifle, that’s to take nothing away from the Striker Burst Rifle and Collateral Damage, as the two other new weapons have a few advantages.

For the former, it’s the range, and the latter impresses with a lightning-fast rate of fire.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
Holo Twister ARS140 DPS (Common); 171.6 DPS (Legendary)
Striker Burst RifleA139.2 DPS (Common); 168 DPS (Legendary)
Collateral DamageB180 DPS (Common); 228 DPS (Legendary)

Fortnite pistol tier list

Fortnite pistols are never going to be your go-to weapon out on the battlefield when longer-range (and higher-damaging) options are available.

When switching to your secondary, you’re going to need stopping power, and the Mammoth Pistol delivers where it counts.

The Suppressed Pistol can be an excellent choice, but its rarer drop conditions make it lose out here. Similarly, you can only get the Baron’s Double Down after taking out Fletcher Kane, so it’s even more situational despite its incredible range.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
Mammoth PistolS89 DPS (Common); 99 DPS (Legendary)
Suppressed PistolA155.25 DPS (Common); 209.25 DPS (Mythic)
Baron’s Double DownB102 DPS

Fortnite sniper tier list

Fortnite sniper rifles can always be deadly, and that’s no exception for the new Falcon Eye Sniper or the Lawless Final Mark.

The former takes the lead over the latter for its better damage output, longer range, double-zoom, and enhanced precision, though.

Lawless Final Mark acts more like a DMR, being better at medium distances, so it’s not quite as long-reaching.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
Falcon Eye SniperS83.6 DPS (Common); 101.2 DPS (Legendary)
Lawless Final MarkA80 DPS (Default); 120 FPS (Marked)

Fortnite SMG tier list

There were only two new Fortnite weapons added where SMGs are concerned, but do they ever pack a punch?

The Veiled Precision should absolutely be picked over the Scoped Burst if you have the choice of the two, but they’ll both get the job done nicely.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
Veiled Precision SMGS154.5 DPS (Common); 195.7 DPS (Legendary)
Scoped Burst A148.59 DPS (Common); 171.45 DPS (Legendary)

Fortnite shotgun tier list

There are four new Fortnite shotguns available in Chapter 6 Season 2, but they’re not all created equally.

While we’re the biggest fans of the Sentinel Pump, here’s how the other three Fortnite guns fared in our experience.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
Sentinel PumpS78.2 DPS (Common); 96.9 DPS (Legendary)
Pump & DumpA76.95 DPS (Common); 98.8 DPS (Mythic)
Outlaw ShotgunB136.32 DPS (Common); 167.56 DPS (Legendary)
Twinfire Auto ShotgunC123.5 DPS (Common); 150.1 DPS (Legendary)

Fortnite melee weapons tier list

There are three new Fortnite melee weapons added in Chapter 6 Season 2, including the brutal Kneecapper and special items themed around the two Mortal Kombat ninjas.

Make no mistake, any of these short-range options will demolish the competition if you can get the drop on them, but this is the priority we think you can use.

Weapon nameTier ratingDamage output
The KneecapperS60 (no charge); 75 (one charge); 90 (two charges)
Sub-Zero’s Kombat KitA40 (Air Kick); 40 (Ice Slide)
Scorpion’s Kombat KitB40-45 (Air Kick – Epic & Mythic); 40-45 (Throw Spear – Epic & Mythic)

Conclusion

The Fortnite best weapons this season are the Holo Twister AR, Sentinel Pump, and the Falcon Eye sniper across the game’s three major categories, with the Mammoth Pistol and Veiled Precision SMG being excellent secondary options for your arsenal.

Special mention has to go to the Kneecapper, a brutal electrified baseball bat, and Sub-Zero’s Kombat Kit, which sees the frosty ninja turn his enemies into icicles.

Things are set to change early next month, so be sure to come back to Esports Insider once season three (Fortnite: Galactic Battle) kicks off.
