If you, like me, are a die-hard fan of the 2022 anime Bocchi The Rock, I have some fantastic news. On Saturday, CloverWorks and Aniplex released an announcement trailer for the second season of the hit anime. No premiere date for the season was shared, but we do have news as to who from the original production team will be returning to helm this new batch of episodes.
The series centers on a young, anxiety-ridden girl who slowly but surely comes out of her shell through playing in an amateur rock band with a close-knit group of friends. Bocchi The Rock quickly asserted itself as one of the year’s best, due in large part to its excellent comedic writing, eccentric animation, rockin’ tunes, and thoughtful exploration of social anxiety.
Keiichirō Saitō (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.), who directed the first season of Bocchi The Rock, will not be returning to direct the second season. Instead, Saitō will be replaced by Yūsuke Yamamoto, who worked as an assistant director on the first season, as well as an episode director on anime including Wonder Egg Priority and My Dress-Up Darling. Erika Yoshida will return as scriptwriter for the second season, and key animator Keito Oda has been promoted to work alongside Kerorira in designing characters for the upcoming season.
If you haven’t watched Bocchi The Rock yet, now is as perfect a time as any to catch up! The entire 12-episode first season is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
