What are the chances for FlyQuest and FURIA, the two champions from LTA North and South Conferences, have at the upcoming 2025 Mid-Season Invitational?

With the two teams carrying the weights for the newly formed region, do they have what it takes to compete with the Eastern teams? Here’s Esports Insider’s breakdown.

LTA South’s First International Experience in 2025

LTA South didn’t compete at First Stand as all the LTA South teams were eliminated by their Northern counterparts in the LTA Split 1 playoffs. Therefore, FURIA will be the first LTA South representative to compete internationally this year.

Despite the hype, LTA South might have a tough time getting past the play-in stage, which includes the second seeds from the LPL, LEC and LCP. Given how LTA South teams struggled to match LTA North in the first split, it would be a surprise to see FURIA close the gap so quickly to the top teams in the world.

It will be a valuable learning process for the Brazilian team, but it’s unlikely we will see them go past play-ins.

FlyQuest Might Have a Chance Against Eastern Teams

That leaves LTA’s hopes all on FlyQuest, which, alongside Cloud9, have been pushing one another to new heights in the LTA Split 2. The team concluded the 2024 season on a high note, pushing Gen.G to an incredible five-game series and proving that the West is closing the gap with the Eastern teams.

One of FlyQuest’s main strengths is its ability to be more innovative when it comes to draft and strategies, often throwing curveballs to the opponents, which might not have a good solution to answer. Given how hard it is to match the Korean and Chinese teams when you try to outplay them mechanically on similar team compositions or playstyles, FlyQuest was one of the first to go against the current and find their own way to make things work.

Fearless Draft this year might be an indirect ‘buff’ for the team, as all teams will be forced to step away from comfort picks in longer series. With a great jungle-mid duo of Song ‘Quad’ Su-hyeong and Kacper ‘Inspired’ Słom, and solid players across every other role, FlyQuest has the potential to make the upset happen against the best teams in the world.

It will be a tough ride in Vancouver, but if there is a team from the LTA that gave fans hope internationally, it’s FlyQuest. With the home region fans cheering on-site, the team has everything it needs to perform well on stage.
