The League of Legends GOAT and T1 mid laner, Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, congratulated Chinese legend Jian ‘Uzi’ Zihao for being inducted into Riot Games’ Hall of Legends.
In a post, Faker stated that he thinks Uzi is a legend and that he has ‘tremendous respect for him.’ The comments came two weeks after the Chinese player was inducted with a Hall of Legends ceremony in Shanghai, on June 6th.
Faker previously also published a video where he publicly welcomed Uzi into the LoL Esports’ hall of fame: “I heard that you are the second player to be inducted into the Hall of Legends. Congratulations!
“I hope you will continue to achieve great things, just like you did during your professional playing days.”
League of Legends Community Torn About Uzi in Hall of Legends
While Faker was happy with Uzi’s induction, the news stirred some controversy in the global League community at the time. The Chinese player, despite being considered an influential figure in the scene, has never won a World Championship, which some consider a crucial criterion for induction into the Hall of Legends.
Nonetheless, Uzi was one of the few who could match Faker’s popularity back when the two were fighting for glory in the first era of League of Legends esports. Uzi came close to the World Championship title on two occasions: The first in 2013, where Faker’s SKT T1 stopped him in the Grand Final, and then in 2018, when Royal Never Give Up (RNG) was close to completing the Golden road, only to be stopped by G2 Esports in the Worlds quarterfinals. That year, Uzi had won both LPL domestic titles and the Mid-Season Invitational in what was the most dominant year for him and RNG.
To celebrate Uzi in the Hall of Legends, Riot Games is selling three exclusive collections, featuring three tier of Hall of Legends-themed Kai’Sa skins, as well as the HoL Pass, which includes a special skins for Uzi’s signature champion, Vayne. The exclusive in-game items will be available until the end of the HoL event on July 30th.
