Looking at gray skies and snow out your window and dreaming about sunny summer getaways? Then you might enjoy this award deal whisking you to Naples, Italy, in business-class seats at the height of the summer season with the help of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles.
There’s availability in May, June, July and August, with flights departing from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
Don’t have a large stash of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles? No worries. Hawaiian Airlines miles are transferable at a 1:1 ratio, which means you could transfer your Amex Membership Rewards points to HawaiianMiles and, from there, transfer the required amount to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. Additionally, you can also transfer Bilt Rewards Points to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan at a 1:1 ratio.
Right now, you can also buy Alaska Airlines miles with a bonus of up to 60%, making this an even better value. Here’s what you need to know.
Deal basics
Airline: Alaska Airlines
Routes: From ORD to Naples International Airport (NAP) in Italy
How to book: Directly with the airline
Travel dates: Select dates in May, June, July and August
Book by: Act fast — this deal could disappear quickly
This deal is for nonstop, round-trip flights between ORD and NAP. There’s a booking fee of $19 in addition to the 55,000 miles each way. We also had luck finding one-way flights.
Note that premium economy flights are available for 35,000 miles each way, plus a $19 fee; meanwhile, economy seats are available for 27,500 miles, plus a $19 fee, on the same dates.
As mentioned, you can transfer Hawaiian Airlines miles to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan at a 1:1 rate for this deal. You can also buy Alaska miles at a bonus right now: We personally were able to buy miles with a bonus of 40% but have heard of users getting up to a 60% bonus, so your results may vary.
Sample flights
The following one-way flights were available at the time of publication. We cannot guarantee availability when you book.
This Aug. 3 flight is available in all three service classes on an American Airlines-operated plane.
August has the best availability in general.
May and June flights have limited availability, but there are still some sweet spots if your schedule is flexible.
As for July, that month has slightly more availability.
Maximize your purchase
If you want to continue to build points to use on Alaska Airlines, be sure to carry a credit card that directly earns Mileage Plan miles or transferable points, such as:
- Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card: Earn an unlimited 3 Mileage Plan miles per dollar spent on eligible Alaska Airlines purchases.
- American Express® Gold Card: Earn 3 points per dollar spent on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel.
- The Platinum Card® from American Express: Earn 5 points per dollar spent on airfare when booked directly with the airline or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 of these purchases per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar).
Bottom line
You can plan ahead for a sunny summer respite in southern Italy with a getaway to Naples from Chicago. Even if you don’t have a stash of Alaska Airlines miles, you can transfer points or miles from Hawaiian Airlines, Amex Membership Rewards or Bilt Rewards, or buy Alaska miles with a bonus to make your Italian travel dreams come true.
