Grout — Royally Messed Up, Seeking Advice

Long story somewhat short: doing DIY partial basement renovation and I laid 200 square feet of porcelain tile near a walkout. That went fine. Then I did the grout and a comedy of errors ensued. First, I used premixed grout and underestimated how quickly that sets. Second, I got fairly sick right before the clean up process where I was going to wipe away the haze, etc. and had to bail for the night. I wish I realized at the time how big of a mistake this was. This led to the grout haze just sitting there for… I’m ashamed to say like two weeks at this point. Once I was better one thing turned into another (busy job with unpredictable hours) and here we are. I’ve spent part of this afternoon scraping away at what I can, which is helping but there’s still an awful haze outlining probably 75% of the grout lines. I’ve read about muriatic acid, vinegar + water, peroxide based solutions, and am honestly just looking for any tips or advice that might help. I actually bought some muriatic acid and diluted it and cleaned two/three tiles with it and it certainly helped, but I’m wondering it this far out I’ll need something else that I let sit overnight or something. Thank you in advance for you pity, advice, and affirmation of how dumb this was. Currently wondering if I should just cut my losses and sell the house. submitted by /u/OutForARipAreYaBud69 [link] [comments]
