Help for Painting a Misty Forest as my bedroom walls?

Hello everyone! This is my first ever post here so apologies in advance lol. Google isnt helping because I dont really know how to search this: I painted my wall a misty Grey with Grey trees when I was 15, and I'd like to repaint it to look better. Im thinking of using a transparent layer of greyish white between the trees to give it a more layered effect. edit: By layering, what i mean is id start with a layer of trees, paint white over it, paint another batch of trees, add the transparent white, etc What would be the best way of doing that? Im seeing conflicting answers on google because google thinks im doing an oil painting
