How to kill Will-o-the-Wisps in Oblivion Remastered

Will-o-the-Wisps can be a challenging enemy type in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered as they’re only susceptible to magic-based attacks.

Will-o-the-Wisps are floating balls of light that are surprisingly tanky and have the ability to absorb your health and magicka on touch. Pairing that with their immunity to normal attacks, and you’ll find Will-o-the-Wisps are a particularly deadly foe — especially for lower-level characters. They may seem impossible to defeat, but that’s because you may be missing a few necessary items or spells.

Here’s how to kill Will-o-the-Wisps in Oblivion Remastered.

How to kill Will-o-the-Wisps in Oblivion Remastered

Will-o-the-Wisps function similarly to other ghost type enemies in Oblivion Remastered — meaning they are immune to normal damage attacks. To deal with them, you’ll need any kind of damage that isn’t classified as “normal” damage, which includes the following:

  • Magic
  • Enchanted weapons — Enchanted weapon must have charge.
  • Silver weapons
  • Daedric weapons
  • Hand-to-hand — Hand-to-hand skill must be at least Journeyman (level 50) or above

If you’re not capable of using any of the damage types listed above, we recommend to avoid fighting them at all costs.

If you’ve encountered a Will-o-the-Wisp, we strongly recommend using magic spells from a distance due to the wisp’s ability to siphon health on touch. Understandably, everyone is not playing a magic-based character, so melee combat users will need to learn the wisp’s attack pattern and weave in their attacks.

Will-o-the-Wisps will approach you and sit there for a second before they drain your health and magicka, which can be seen in the combat UI and through the red and blue lights floating towards the wisp. To combat this, you’ll need to repeatedly hit them as soon as they approach you and back away before they have a chance to drain your resources.

Once defeated, you can pick up a glow dust from the pile of dust left behind.
