Humidifier leaked and I need advice

Hey all, I could use some advice. In my girls’ bedroom we had a humidifier pretty much drench the carpet underneath and it took a few days for us to notice. As soon as I noticed, I put two fans on it too dry it out and opened up the windows. Then I sprayed some water vinegar and coated the affected area with baking soda overnight and vacuumed it the next day. I did that twice. There was a fairly strong smell initially when all this happened but it has slowly decreased as I tried these techniques (or else I just got used to the smell). I have now have a dehumidifer running in there all day. My questions: 1) is it safe for my girls to sleep in their bedroom as I am remedying this? 2) do you think I need to lift up the carpet and inspect and possibly replace the foam layer underneath it (no idea how hard that is going to be so if you could give me some tips that would be great). 3) should I punt and call a professional to ensure we remedy everything and how much would that about cost? Thanks for any advice. submitted by /u/mix0mat0sis [link] [comments]
