Via an adorable featurette starring Sean Astin, aka Samwise Gamgee, Lego has pulled back the curtain on its latest set inspired by The Lord of the Rings. The Shire Lego set will be available to pre-order for Lego Insiders on April 2 for $269. Everyone else will have a chance to reserve this set starting on April 5. If you’d like to pre-order this set ASAP, a Lego Insiders membership is free, and will net you access to exclusive discounts and other promotions.
In the reveal trailer, Sean Astin gets to show off the various details and features of Lego’s 2,019-piece version of Bag End. The Baggins’ estate is displayed as it appeared during Bilbo’s eleventy-first birthday celebration, with full attendance from minifigs of Bilbo, Frodo, the Proudfoots Proudfeet, Merry, Pippin, Rosie Cotton, Samwise, and Gandalf. The cutaway of Bag End features a Hobbit-sized vestibule, a study, and a kitchen, while Gandalf comes with his cart of fireworks.
While Lego hasn’t produced a staggering number of Lord of the Rings sets, the company’s previous efforts have been appropriately epic and brimming with detail. The sets based on Barad-dûr and Rivendell feature over 11,000 pieces between them and over 25 minifigs in total. Coincidentally, you can currently purchase Sauron’s tower from Amazon, while the Rivendell set is available from Lego.
