Lewis Hamilton Chooses Wales Bonner for the 2025 Met Gala

Lewis Hamilton arrived at the 2025 Met Gala in a look that yielded many fashion history layers.

The British Formula 1 racer stepped onto those famous steps in a custom cream colored suit and a matching beret by Wales Bonner that seamlessly embodied the "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme. Styled by Eric McNeal, Hamilton's tuxedo-like look and matching beret was accessorized with gold accessories. A standout piece of jewelry? His gold brooch that sat on his lapel, glinting with a true elegance.

In his May Vogue cover story, Hamilton shed light of his personal style influences, citing the likes of Eddie Murphy, James Baldwin, and of course Andre Leon Talley. But there was also a poignant depth within his ensemble, which the British designer delved into further.

“We brought together a range of influences, from Barkley L. Hendricks paintings to Black spiritual dressing to some of the brand’s craft signatures,” Grace Wales Bonner told Vogue about the looks inspiration. “There are stories told through jewel adornments and special trims, with symbolism in baobab flower motifs and natural materials like cowrie shells and mother-of-pearl buttons.”

Cab Calloway, star of Harlem Nights, also influenced the making of Hamilton’s look, according to Wales Bonner.

Hamilton is no stranger to the fashion scene, as he's rapidly established himself as a style icon. The Dior ambassador was one of the first athletes to venture into the fashion and bridge the gap the way he did. He's launched more than one collaborative collection with Tommy Hilfiger and has been a front row fixture at fashion shows. And on the tenth anniversary of his Met Gala debut, Hamilton proved just how far his style has come.
