Game developer MOONTON Games has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Malaysia Esports Federation (MESF).

As a result of the deal, the two parties will collaborate to develop Malaysia’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams set to compete in the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

According to a release, MOONTON Games will offer ‘financial, technical, and promotional support’ to the Federation, enabling it to select and prepare players to represent male and female rosters at the 2025 SEA Games in December.

Esports first featured at the SEA Games in 2019, with its 2025 edition featuring 11 countries from the region fielding rosters.

“While this MoA is for the SEA Games, our collaboration with the Malaysia Esports Federation is deeper than that,” said Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, Malaysia Esports Lead at MOONTON Games.

“We believe that growing this industry in Malaysia requires all parties to work together, and with MESF, we do not just want to grow esports in Malaysia but also position Malaysia as the esports hub in this region.”

MOONTON Games continues to expand its esports efforts across several markets around the world. In August 2024, the developer partnered with the Saudi Esports Federation with the aim of growing the industry in the Kingdom. In addition to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, it has also inked similar deals with the United States Esports Federation.

MOONTON Games and Continued Growth

MOONTON Games has actively encouraged the growth of the esports industry through market expansions and partnerships with various brands.

In February, the developer secured a multi-year deal with technology brand Infinix, while March saw it join forces with Samsung to launch a collegiate event featuring local tournaments in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Outside of regional competitions, the next international Mobile Legends: Bang Bang event is the Mid-Season Cup and Women’s Invitational. Both tournaments are taking place as part of the Esports World Cup, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia throughout July and August.
