Get over here because Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition launches today, allowing you to grab everything NetherRealm Studios’ latest fighting game has to offer in one package.
For $69.99, Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition includes the base game and all of its DLC. Like previous MKs, Mortal Kombat 1 has received plenty of DLC, whether we’re talking story content, new characters, or skins. Both of the Kombat Packs included returning Mortal Kombat characters as well as crossover fighters, like Omni-Man from Invincible and Ghostface from Scream. Here’s all the content that Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition will include, according to a press release announcing the launch:
- Mortal Kombat 1 Main Game
- Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Story Expansion
- Kombat Pack Fighters: Quan Chi, Ermac, Takeda Takahashi, Omni-Man, Peacemaker, Homelander
- Kombat Pack Kameo Fighters: Tremor, Khameleon, Janet Cage, Mavado, Ferra
- Kombat Pack 2 Fighters: Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, T-1000 Terminator
- Kombat Pack 2 Kameo Fighter: Madam Bo
- Shang Tsung Fighter
- Mortal Kombat II Movie Skins (Outfits): Johnny Cage, Shao Kahn, Kitana, Scorpion
- Mortal Kombat (2021) Movie Skin (Outfit): Sub-Zero
- Tournament Liu Kang Character Skin (Outfit)
- Jean-Claude Van Damme Character Skin (Voice, Likeness, Outfit) for Johnny Cage
- Wedding Scorpion & Empress Mileena Character Skins (Outfits)
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Character Skins (Outfits): Sub-Zero & Noob Saibot
- Animality Finishing Moves
- 1,250 Dragon Krystals (In-Game Currency)
If you own the base game, but none of its DLC, you can purchase the “Definitive Edition Upgrade” for $59.99. The base game still steeply retails for $49.99, but you can frequently find it on sale digitally for $19.99 or less.
Ed Boon, series co-creator, said in a tweet last fall, “NetherRealm is still fully committed to supporting Mortal Kombat 1 for a long time to come.” However, with the launch of the Definitive Edition, fans are wondering if this marks the end of support for MK1 and if it’ll receive a third Kombat Pack of new fighters. We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. and NetherRealm for clarification and will update this story accordingly.
Mortal Kombat 11, the previous entry in the franchise (I know, titles be confusing), received its final DLC two years after it launched as well, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the Definitive Edition marked the end of support for Mortal Kombat 1. It would be annoying, however, for fans who thought the game would have a longer runway.
As for what NetherRealm has next, that’s yet to be revealed. The studio has known what it wants to make next since before Mortal Kombat 1 was even revealed, according to Boon’s above tweet, though we don’t know if its next project will be a new IP, a new Mortal Kombat, or a third Injustice.
