Lost in Starlight is Netflix’s first Korean original animated film and it’s a sci-fi romance about two star-crossed lovers. Like, literally star-crossed, because one of them is an astronaut who’s sent on a long space mission, while the other remains behind on Earth.
The first trailer shows off the gorgeous setting: a near-future Seoul and the expanses of space. The two young lovers, Nan-young and Jay, meet and a romance blossoms between them. But Nan-young is headed on a space mission to Mars, so she warns Jay to keep his distance from her. Of course, that doesn’t work, and the two must navigate their romance across the stars.
Lost in Starlight comes from Korean animation director Han Ji-won, best known for 2023’s The Summer, a queer coming-of-age romance. Kim Tae-ri (The Handmaiden) and Hong Kyung (Weak Hero Class 1) star as Nan-young and Jay respectively. The movie hits Netflix on May 30.
