The first LAN event of the 2025 Apex Legends esports season is here. To mark the fifth year of the Apex Legends Championship Series (ALGS), the ALGS Open 2025 is the largest event in the history of the circuit.
With 160 teams from across the world attending the event, the competition will feature the best players in the world looking to start the year on the front foot by securing a high amount of Championship Points and prize money.
Because more teams will attend, ALGS Open 2025 will feature a different format than previous events. Esports Insider has everything you need to know about the first event in this year’s ALGS calendar.
Teams to Watch at ALGS Open 2025
Despite such a vast number of teams competing, several teams are in contention of winning the first ALGS event of 2025.
NAVI
After winning the 2024 ALGS Global Championship, Ukrainian esports organisation NAVI heads into the tournament as one of the top teams from the EMEA region.
Looking to continue its strong run of form, the European roster will aim to be the last one standing.
Virtus.Pro
For the Americas, it’s hard not to consider Virtus.Pro as a force to be reckoned with at ALGS Open 2025 after an impressive start to the opening split of Pro League action.
Following the organisation’s return to the battle royale in 2024, the team currently sits at the top of the Pro League and looks to build upon its fifth-place finish from the 2024 ALGS Championship.
ALGS Open 2025 Format and Schedule
Due to the expanded number of teams heading to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to compete in the opening event of the 2025 season, EA has introduced a double-elimination bracket format followed by a Match Point Final to determine the winner. This action will take place from May 1st to the 3rd.
All teams will receive a starting position within the bracket determined by their performance within the first split of Pro League or the Challenger circuit.
The top 10 teams from the winners’ bracket will move on to the next round, while the bottom 10 drop into the elimination bracket. For each elimination bracket match, the top 10 teams will move on to the next round while the bottom 10 are eliminated from the tournament.
Once the double-elimination bracket has concluded, the 20 remaining teams will compete in the Match Point Finals on May 4th, where teams must earn 50 points to activate a chance of winning the tournament. The team with Match Point active while winning a match is declared the winner of the tournament.
