Overwatch 2 celebrates Pride 2025 with free Soldier: 76 skin, emote, and lore
Happy Pride Month, Overwatch 2 gamers. Blizzard Entertainment announced it's kicking off this year's festivities with a closer look at Jack Morrison, AKA Soldier: 76, one of the game's several LGBTQ+ heroes. A new short story about Soldier: 76 and his romantic interest Vincent is now available, called Futures Past. Written by four-time Lammy award and four time Spectrum Award winner Melissa Scott, it clocks in at about 30 pages and features Morrison and fellow OW2 hero Illari and "is a sobering tale of Soldier: 76 looking back not only on his past, but more importantly, looking forward and fighting for what matters: a bright future for everyone." Screenshot by Destructoid "We know how important Pride is for so many of you—it’s special for many of us that work on Overwatch 2 as well—and we love being able to take this time to stand up and celebrate the unique diversity that all of us share," Blizzard said. In-game, the celebrations begin tomorrow. From May 30 to June 30, a free Soldier: 76 Pride skin called Resilient will be available for free for all who log in to OW2, along with a new Rainbow Smoke Bomb emote. The Pride Month party continues elsewhere because Blizzard is bringing back the Pride festival variant of the Midtown map, as "Pride festivals around the world continue a tradition of showing courage and solidarity for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community, and Midtown is no different." The map will be available in-game until June 30, and it will also have its own dedicated card in Arcade. Finally, Blizzard is calling on artists to send in fanart for Pride, and the company will be combining the best pieces into a montage that will be displayed on Blizzard campus. "Remember that you are unique to this world, but that doesn’t mean you are alone. No one can take away the amazing things that make you a positive force in the world. Everyone will always be welcome in our amazing community. You will always exist, and you will always matter. That is what makes you a hero."
