Overwatch 2 has revealed that its latest collaboration event will feature the nostalgic 1990s franchise, G.I. Joe, bringing five new cosmetic skins to the hero shooter.
The event will run from July 1st to 14th, bringing Hasbro’s iconic action figures to the game alongside special challenges for players to complete.
G.I. Joe is an American media action figure franchise created by Hasbro in 1964. It was a series of American militarised dolls targeted at a young demographic, and years later, it has become a global sensation.
A minute-long gameplay trailer was posted online by Blizzard Entertainment to promote the Overwatch 2 G.I. Joe event and showcase the skins players can get their hands on in the game. The limited-time in-game event will be available for free across all platforms that run Overwatch 2.
The skins will be available in five individual Hero Bundles, or can be bought all together through the G.I. Joe Mega Bundle. Prices have yet to be revealed, but could be similar to previous collaboration events such as Gundam Wing. Earlier this year, a standard bundle went for 2,800 Overwatch coins (~$30/£23), and a mega bundle for 5,900 coins (~$60/£46), so we could see something similar this time around.
These are all the skins available and their respective characters:
- Genji as Snake Eyes (G.I Joe)
- Freja as Scarlett (G.I Joe)
- Widowmaker as Baroness (Cobra opertaive)
- Reaper as Cobra Commander (Cobra operative)
- Doomfist as Destro (Cobra operative)
Alongside the skins, several ‘Special Op’ challenges can also be completed to unlock free rewards before the event expires. These rewards include cosmetic items such as voice-lines, sprays, and weapon charms inspired by G.I Joe.
In a post online, Blizzard Entertainment wrote: “Claim the G.I. Joe player title, rack up 25,000 Battle Pass XP to fuel your seasonal grind, and show the world you’re mission-ready. Challenges are live across Quick Play, Competitive, and Stadium, and wins score you double progress.”
However, Blizzard Entertainment has not shared if there will be any esports activations with the Overwatch 2 G.I. Joe collaboration event.
