Porch post - load bearing?

I posted this in r/carpentry a while ago, but am planning to install a decorative rail around my porch and want to be sure on this post. I know these pics aren’t great, there’s a video here where you can get more of what’s going on: https://www.reddit.com/r/Carpentry/s/ZMXExQjwrp Anyway, I want to take these post out as I want to install a composite rail around the porch. I’m torn on if I need to replace this post with a proper length 4x4 in place of what’s there, use a sleeve over it and use this as the corner post of my railing. Or if I can simply remove this post and go with shorter post all around for the rail. I only began to look into this post because I noticed it seemed like it turned during a strong storm recently. I popped open the soffit and saw that the post doesn’t even meet any structure of the room, instead there’s a 2x4 shim attached to a long beam (4, sistered 2x6s extending off house) and 2 nails driven through the porch post into the shim. I know those nails aren’t holding up my porch covering, but the soffit/roof do appear to be resting on the trim a bit. submitted by /u/PeakFinancial1600 [link] [comments]
