The Voice is an Avowed character (insomuch as a disembodied entity can be a character) who you’ll talk to during the “Message from Afar” main story mission. One of your first interactions with the Voice is a choice.
The Voice offers you a “power” in exchange for a “favor,” and the choice you make has immediate ramifications on your character. Here’s if you should accept the Voice’s power in Avowed, and what you’ll get from the choice you make.
Should you accept the Voice’s power in Avowed?
After you defeat the infected bear and rescue the Aedyran ambassador, you’re directed to interact with a large adra pillar. This will trigger a conversation with the voice (aptly named “the Voice”). At the end of your chat, they’ll offer you the “the power to heal and be healed” in exchange for “a favor.”
- If you choose to accept the Voice’s power, you’ll unlock the Dream Touch ability.
- If you turn down the Voice’s power, you’ll get… one single ability point — the thing that allows you to unlock or level-up new skills. Yep! That’s all you get!
Dream Touch is one of the most consistently useful abilities in the game, and this choice is your only opportunity to unlock it. It’s a healing spell that costs just 30 essence and revives any downed allies, meaning you can resurrect defeated allies from afar rather than risking yourself by manually reviving them during a fight. Dream Touch also restores some of your health. During hectic fights, the ability is often the difference between life and death.
By contrast, earning a single ability point doesn’t make waves this early on in the game. You’re at a point where you still level up with regularity. (You get one ability point per level.) And Dream Touch far outweighs any of the early skills you can unlock.
To the best of our knowledge, according to those who’ve completed the main story, accepting the Voice’s power here doesn’t have any major narrative ramifications.
