Sump pump discharge solution
Currently my sump pump discharges about 3 feet away from the house by my front door. Normally we dont have issues with this but a few times a year during heavy rain we need to attach a piece of drain pipe to push the water out another 6ft or so into the lawn to prevent the water from returning back and overwhelming the sump pump. This is an annoying task to put it out and away every time it rains badly or I need to mow the lawn. However it is worth mentioning that this small extension does indeed work to keep the crawlspace and house dry. I am planning on running an underground drain 15ft away from the house with 2" solid PVC and using a large piece of 4" drilled PVC pipe with the holes facing down in a gravel trench to drain the water. After the drilled PVC I will 90 up and put a pop up relief in case somehow the drain line gets overwhelmed or I need to use it as a cleanout for a clog. Will this solution work? I am located in the suburbs of chicago im not sure how my soil conditions are as far as drainage is concerned. My friend who is a plumber told me to just skip the drain line and run solid pvc to the pop up but for some reason im worried about water sitting in the line. I think a dry well would filled quite quickly during peak rain as well. Sometimes it just pours out here and the city storm sewer gets overwhelmed as well leaving a lake at the bottom of my driveway. Draining it out to the street isnt an option as the street is quite far. submitted by /u/Whitehawk120 [link] [comments]
