Taras Yoom’s “Echoes of Time” Collection Blends Paleolithic Art Forms With Minimalist Design
Taras Yoom has unveiled a new collection of design objects titled “Echoes of Time,” inspired by Paleolithic art forms. The Bangkok-based multidisciplinary artist, known for his unique style in blending human nature and biology in his creative practice, has revealed five new distinct pieces spanning a mirror, floor lamp, trash bin, side table and vinyl player, each crafted to explore the tension between technology and culture across time.In the “Echoes of Time” series, modern technologies are placed within ancient forms and timeless contexts. An interplay between past methods and minimalist aesthetics, the designs are envisioned with a unique blend of historical and contemporary elements. Crafted from materials such as white onyx, black quarry stone, pink marble and metal, each piece also comes with its very own backstory.The “Collective Image” mirror features ancient stone beams pressing into a metal surface, creating reflections that evoke layered narratives. Meanwhile, the “Online” lamp is an installation that captures light rays through its assembly of stone columns and chromed metal reflectors, representing a blend of historical craftsmanship and modern design.The “Pit” trash bin elevates a mundane object into an artistic statement, reminiscent of a sacred vessel from ancient times that once held rarities and curiosities. Composed of varying stones, the “Support” side table symbolizes the origins of handcrafted objects for both the collection and humanity. Last but not least, the “First Diamond” vinyl player underscores the significant role of music, albeit curative or destructive, across communities throughout history.The assortment of the above pieces is embedded in the Yoomoota art universe, representing the planet of Beginnings. According to Yoom, the collection features items that are anomalies for any epoch, combining straight lines and suspended states that were impossible in the past.
