Trouble with rusted out basement drain
A few days ago my flood alarm went off and I discovered the basement drain that my dehumidifier was piped to was backed up. It has one of those floating ball plugs so I figured I needed to remove the drain assembly to snake it. But when I tried unscrewing the extremely rusted nut, the bolt was rotating with it and I am unsure how to proceed. I have a Dremel and an oscillating tool I could presumably use to cut the bolt and nut off, but I am unsure if that will help or making it worse. I saturated the bolt and nut in a penetrating lubricant, but there isn't enough of the bolt exposed for me to vise-grip it and fit a wrench on the bolt head. I'm thinking its like a track bolt and the hole of the drain assembly it's supposed to be anchored by is rusted out and that's why it rotates with the nut? I'm pretty sure the assembly is shot and needs to be busted out, but I don't know if this is DIY-able or if I need a pro to prevent doing more harm than good. Any advice from this wonderful community would be greatly appreciated. https://preview.redd.it/kilzn8j5ny2f1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e5aa4a274b85b9ab60c24ec1b80791c9ab3eaf0 https://preview.redd.it/9fg9xcj5ny2f1.jpg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3141487e83425d936367f4507441b4e4f9a4f737 submitted by /u/No_Tip8620 [link] [comments]
