Using plywood to fake a solid wood desktop?

I am looking at building an office desk, and I would like to have rounded edges for the tabletop. To save in cost, and avoid having to join several boards on edge, I was considering using sanded plywood for the desktop. Ideally, I'd hide the layers of the plywood but still be able to use a round router bit and round off the edges. I think that means I can't use an edge band, as the routed edges would expose the layers. Is there a trick for doing this that would look decent? I only have hand tools, so I can't do anything too crazy - also a reason to avoid joining the boards to make a large surface as I can't put them through a planer. Is using a solid wood band all around the desk top the only option I have? submitted by /u/PolycrystallineOne [link] [comments]
