“We’re not switching”: OpTic Texas rules out roster changes for CDL Major 4

The 2025 Call of Duty League (CDL) season is entering its final stages. With several franchises in contention to secure a place at Championship Weekend, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the most recognisable name in the esport.

OpTic Texas is a name synonymous with Call of Duty esports, and despite achieving a wealth of success in previous seasons, 2025 has been a season of struggle for the 2024 CDL champions.

Following another top-eight finish at Major 3, player Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro has addressed rumours surrounding another change to the starting lineup.

During a stream on April 28th, 2025, Shotzzy told viewers that OpTic Texas has no intention of making any changes to its roster ahead of the Major 4 qualifiers, which begin on May 2nd.

“Chat, we’re not switching,” said Shotzzy. Despite the claim, fans of the franchise continue to question the decision to keep the current lineup when there is a possibility of the Green Wall failing to qualify for Championship Weekend.

With 10 CDL Points on offer for each qualifying match win and 370 available at Major 4’s LAN event in Dallas, Texas, there is still a mathematical chance of OpTic Texas securing qualification for the biggest Call of Duty esports tournament of the season.

Following Major 3, the franchise sits on 145 CDL Points in eighth place, 30 points ahead of Minnesota Rokkr and 40 ahead of Cloud9 New York. Both franchises have a chance of sending OpTic Texas out of the top eight if they can perform well during Major 4 qualifiers and the LAN event.

The prospect of OpTic Texas missing out on Champs for the first time in its history is an interesting one. Despite the franchise making several changes to its roster in a bid to rekindle the magic of 2024, it will be interesting to see if its struggles continue or the franchise opts for a last-minute switch to lock in a spot in the top eight.
