‘What I can say is it’s good’: Popular streamer drops hints about his Marathon playtest experience

As the hype for Bungie's new extraction shooter Marathon comes to a head before its official gameplay reveal stream this weekend, one popular streamer has revealed what little he can about what he knows. DrLupo, who rose to fame by livestreaming games like Destiny and Fortnite but also has a big penchant for extraction shooters like Marathon and Escape From Tarkov, recently revealed during a broadcast that he has playtested the game "over the course of the last five or six years" and he "knew about it in 2017 or 2018." He also claimed that he was "the first non-Bungie employee to see the game." Screenshot by Destructoid "Marathon is a game, and I can't give you details," DrLupo said. "But what I can say is it's good, dude. I can say that. I can fuckin' say that for sure. I can't talk about a lot of pieces of it. I can't talk about, really, any of it yet." Careful not to break anything in his non-disclosure agreement, Lupo paused and chose his words carefully in a clip from his stream that's been circulating since April 8. In it, he revealed he has been "involved" with Marathon for a long time. "I got involved with this project when it was four people," he said. "Every iteration I've seen of it has been better than the last iteration. Every time it's gotten better. It has been better every time I've seen it and I think, I wanna level-set too, I think that it can be better than what it is right now, even ignoring the uncompleted versions." He said he's been playing a pre-alpha playtest, but reiterated that the game has been improved over time each time he's seen it, and said he's excited for any future playtests and to show his audience things that he's been playing and involved with. This past weekend, Marathon community members solved an intricate, complicated alternate reality game (ARG) set up by Bungie to unlock a "save the date" trailer for Marathon, revealing that there will be a reveal live stream this Saturday at 1pm ET for Bungie to fully show off the game, and potentially announce a playtest for the masses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZUv1-qR1Aw While the extraction shooter genre has been flooded with many attempts to recreate the success of Escape From Tarkov and a few other titles, a brand new game from the makers of Halo and Destiny is always worth keeping an eye on, so I and many others will be tuned in to the reveal this weekend.
