Whats the best wood sealant for a new, small picket fence? (pressure-treated pine).
Google's got me confused with retailers pushing a myriad of expensive products. I have just installed a ground contact 4x4's and 5.5" wide rough pine pressure-treated pickets around both sides of my front porch for a total of a mere 16 linear feet (~8 feet per side). I moderately sanded all surfaces before installation and the wood is now dry and acclimated and prime for sealing (from what I've read). It doesn't really need stained but a slight and even darkening would be fine. What is the basic go-to to make this sealed? I'm a mineral oil fan for indoor stuff, but I don't think this will cut it outdoors in the Texas heat (and cold right now). But I think oil-based urethane, which is what Home Depot is pushing VERY hard (it's the the same Varathane product listed 25 times consecutively with one water-based Behr in between) - is overkill.
