Why is there so much hate for big box store products?
I'm currently researching cool roof coatings like Henry or Lanco and seems like they perform on par with many commercial products. I've done the whole, dive into the rabbit hole and I know commercial products have their merrits. But I've spent days researching what might be a good product to put on my small 15' x 22' metal building that I use for a photography studio. The building is gray but summers in Houston have the inside hotter than a witches tit. This is with 2" of closed cell foam and a 1.5 ton ductless A/C. In testing, the roof hits close to 167 degress in 95 degree weather. A white piece of metal I tested next to the roof hits about 126 degrees, that's a big difference. Plan is just to spray the building white but was considering either a reflective acrylic or silicone for the roof. I know they have their pros and cons but looking for some real world experience. I've looked at the data (well taking this as a trusted site) from Cool Roof Rating Council and it seems like a LOT of the products from big box stores perform just as good or better than some commercial grade products. Their directory is awesome and I think I've narrowed down my choices to a few different ones, thoughts on either going with silicone or an acrylic based roof coating? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WsnlX9PQ37ZCqwmHoC-Cv8G_kJ8mpcDyPl5DWDY8kwk/edit?usp=sharing https://preview.redd.it/h173mxr0172f1.jpg?width=3250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ac37f355d47a2ee2bc20b4cf7b32951cfc547ae submitted by /u/hotrodguru [link] [comments]
