Willy Chavarria’s Adidas Collaboration Is Finally Here, Celebrates Chicano Culture

Willy Chavarria’s Adidas collaboration is finally ready to shop.

First unveiled on his Spring/Summer 2025 runway, it offers an “American take on Adidas,” says the California-born, New York–based designer. “Adidas has played into so many different cultural identities globally that I have a real affinity for, from the Mods to techno music and rave culture, and I wanted to showcase the way it’s worn in Chicano culture," he adds.

The capsule collection launched Thursday and features a number of Chavarria’s classic silhouettes, such as pleated wide-leg pants and super-long basketball shorts recut in performance activewear fabrications, as well as exaggerated-shoulder track jackets and oversized football jerseys that say “Chicano” in place of a team name. Chavarria remade the signature Adidas deep blue in an “energetic” teal, and also put his spin on the classic low-top Jabbar sneaker by giving it a pointed toe. Pieces range in price from a $100 white T-shirt to a $280 football jersey. Item from the collaboration are available to shop on the designer's and Adidas' websites.

“As a little kid, I asked my friends and family to please call me Kareem Abdul-Jabbar,” Chavarria says. “I’ve always been a huge fan of him, both as an athlete and advocate for human rights. While creating the collection, I kept thinking about how we were designing a uniform for guardians of social justice.”

His starting point for the robust 36-piece collection was his first association with the German athletic brand: borrowing his farmworker father’s vintage suede Adidas kicks as a teenager. “I wore them with tapered corduroy pants, a white T-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and my hair slicked back like a ‘60s guy,” Chavarria recalls. “I thought it was the coolest look ever.”

This collaboration with Adidas offers fans of the brand an opportunity to shop Willy Chavarria at a slightly lesser price, while, for Chavarria, it marks a full circle moment in his design career.
