‘Practical Magic 2’ Is Officially Happening—Here’s Everything We Know

More than 25 years after Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman first stirred up trouble as the spell-casting Owens sisters, Practical Magic is officially getting a sequel. Warner Bros. announced the long-awaited Practical Magic 2 with a teaser featuring the original stars reciting a new incantation: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.” The news set social media ablaze, as fans of the original—now a beloved cult classic—reacted with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. 

The original 1998 film slowly transformed into a generational favorite, beloved for its cozy autumnal vibe and the now-iconic “midnight margaritas” scene. In the years since its release, the film has cultivated a loyal cult following.

Practical Magic 2 Plot 

Adapted from Alice Hoffman's novel, the original Practical Magic (1998) followed Sally and Gillian Owens, two sisters born into a long line of witches, and a deadly family curse that dooms the men they love. The first film balanced darkness and whimsy, from resurrecting an abusive ex to making “midnight margaritas,” all while wrestling with the supernatural.

The sequel will reportedly be based on one of Hoffman’s later books in the Practical Magic series, suggesting a deeper dive into the Owens family history or a continuation of their magical legacy. While plot details remain under wraps, the return of a film so iconic signals it will be worth watching. 

Practical Magic 2 Cast

Both Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are confirmed to reprise their roles as Gillian and Sally Owens. The two actresses, who also serve as producers on the film alongside Denise Di Novi, have previously expressed pride in the original. 

This time around, Susanne Bier (The Undoing, Bird Box) will direct the film, with a screenplay penned by Akiva Goldsman, known for his work on A Beautiful Mind and I Am Legend. 

Practical Magic 2 Release Date 

Practical Magic 2 is set to premiere on September 18, 2026, with Warner Bros. confirming the release through a haunting teaser. In the trailer, Bullock and Kidman chant: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew. Something old and something new. Let the spell begin to mix. Sept. 18, 2026.”
