Am I in trouble?

Hey folks. So I've been researching, reading, watching YouTube videos and today decided to go for it. I was pretty certain that under the carpet on my stairs was hardwood. Got confirmation from some others that it seemed to be the case. So I decided to do a small batch and take the carpet off two steps into my kitchen. After pulling up carpet, padding, and all the staples this is what I'm working with. Can I refinish these and make them look alive again? Or did I mess up? Prime reason why I did just two steps to be on the safe side. Would love to hear from others whether this project is DOA or if I can refinish these babies.
