BEAMS & New Balance's All-Black 1000s Are Artfully Mismatched
Following New Balance's reissue of the retro 1000 model in 2024, the Boston-based footwear brand has teamed up with BEAMS for a new variant that blurs the lines between minimalism and maximalism. Taking a monochromatic yet multimedia approach, the Japanese label reimagines the 1999-born runner with a patchwork of various sneaker materials. At a quick glance, the pair appears to be identical, but with closer inspection, the uppers reveal a spectrum of materials that borrow from New Balance's design lexicon. Textured mesh underlays stand out on the one shoe against the smooth suede overlays. On the other hand, smooth leather overlays boast a slight sheen, contrasting with the microfiber underlays. For another mismatched detail, each N logo is slightly asymmetrical with a unique 3D finish.Though every component, from the uppers to the cushioned soles, is cast in stark black, BEAMS opts for a reflective material in the laces for an extra futuristic touch. Finally, the cobranded logos are printed on the insoles in the BEAMS brand color scheme.Customers in the US will be the first to get their hands on the BEAMS x New Balance 1000s with the project set for release at the BEAMS POP-UP LA on Thursday, April 10. Following the US launch, the pair can be bought via the BEAMS web store and select retail locations.Click here to view full gallery at Hypebeast
